Welcome to the Steno Wizard's Realtime Journey!

Remember when life was simple and all you had to do was make a selection on what your steno really meant? Those days are long gone.

Reporters must get themselves into top realtime form to compete in today's job market. This is my contribution toward ALL of us reaching the realtime goal.

My Steno Wizardry concept is based on the idea that writing realtime actually doesn't require magic -- just hard work, determination, and a little bit of FUN imagination.

My hope is my sharing of the ideas I've incorporated into my realtime journey will assist you in yours.

Sharing some Philadelphia Clinic Theory Phrases

Steno Wizard learned a smattering of brief phrases courtesy of the Philadelphia Clinic Theory (incorporating others picked up along the way) and thought it would be awesome to share these.

On the left-hand side of the keyboard...

KWRA I can't
KWREU I didn't
KWRU I couldn't
KWRAO I wouldn't
SKWRA you can't
SKWRO you don't
SKWRU you couldn't
SKWRAO you wouldn't

Then hook up these to the above strokes from the right-hand side of the keyboard...
-S say
-Z see
-NK think
-NKS think so
-MT mean to
-MTS mean to say
-BL believe
-BLS believe so
-NTS notice
-NDZ understand
-J imagine
-RKT recollect
-R remember
-RL recall
-RLS realize
-F have
-N know
-T tell
-TS tell us
-K care
-FG figure
-RZ recognize
-L like
-PT want

These are great for increasing Q&A speed.

  1. I've also seen "I can't" KWRA and then "you can't" KWA

lifting up the R only instead of adding the S for the "you" phrases

  2. Wow, now that's something new for me. Hmmm...that's a really interesting concept. Thank you so much for sharing.

  3. What about I can, you can, I did, you did etc? So tired of being stuck in my speed and want badly to progress.

  4. I write you can U-BG
I can AOEUBG so EUBG is my -ic suffix
you did URPLS (stolen from Mark Kislingbury - champion writer)
    I did EURPLS
    we did WERPLS
    they did THERPLS
    she did SHERPLS
    he did ERPLS
    I do EURPBLGS
    you do URPBLGS
    they do THERPBLGS
    we do WERPBLGS

I know those keys may seem weird, but keep an open mind. We write the J- as SKWR, and that's nowhere close to looking like a J.

If there's anything more specific you'd like me to suggest, please feel free to email me at Stenowizard@gmail.com
I'm happy to try to assist you in your journey.

I hope you're prioritizing your practice -- which means when you're still fresh. :) I often tell people do not wait to practice until you've done everything else in your day and FINALLY sit down to practice.

    1. I greatly appreciate your reply! I'm going to start practicing all of these. I really wish phrasing was talked about more in theory. Thank you!!!

  5. I downloaded the Philly Clinic dictionary from the stenovations site, and I have a Philly Clinic manual. Is it possible to use that dictionary and the manual as the basis for its own theory or do i need to learn another theory underneath it?

  6. Or should i focus on a base theory, then just add the phily briefs to my dictionary?

  7. I would suggest that you focus on your base theory, and then you can fine-tune and tweak your writing to your heart's content. You can add the Philly briefs as you need them. You are in control of your choices -- Philadelphia Clinic, Magnum Steno Theory, etc.

Philly is its own theory, and I am not familiar with what you've downloaded from Stenovations. I am not 100% certain that Philadelphia Clinic is completely realtime compatible. There's probably tweaks and fine-tuning that needs to be done with it too.

  8. I'm not overly concerned with real time compatibility because I'm a hobbyist and not a future court reporter or CART provider. I just want to write faster for worwork! :) I'm not sure what is all in that dictionary either, it is in exe format and I have no idea what opens it. I need dictionaries in RTF to add to Plover. Thanks for replaying. I think you just answered more questions from me under a different email -- I changed computers = diff log ins.
